Hello.

I’m Colton. I created Surface & System to help small businesses bring their digital operations up to speed.

I’ve worked professionally as a software engineer for over eight years, but I started building websites in high school, nearly 15 years ago. I graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 2017 and spent the first five years of my career in financial technology as a software developer.

In 2022, I moved to Manhattan, New York, to join a British technology consulting agency. I worked on a number of projects there, but my favorite experience was with bet365. That project took me to Manchester, England, for six months, helping their team launch their mobile app in the United States as gambling legislation evolved across the country. In 2025, I returned home to Texas, splitting my time between Austin, Kerrville, and my hometown of Corpus Christi.

I started Surface & System because I believe small businesses should have access to custom software at a reasonable price. With AI-assisted development and design, polished, professional digital experiences should be within reach. Instead, I kept seeing the same offering I had seen for the past decade: off-the-shelf solutions. Squarespace, Wix, WordPress, and other templated services were still the default for a small business’s online presence.

My goal is to build custom solutions that set small businesses apart from competitors still running on the tools available to them in 2010. I use AI to help build your online surfaces—websites and mobile apps—and custom business systems that automate parts of your business, help you become more profitable, and let you serve more customers.
